PF Flyers 12U wins tournament again
The PF Flyers 12U team trailed for only one half inning the entire tournament, en route to winning the Kings Midsummer Classic on Sunday.
Leading 4-2, Ryan Edwards doubled to plate a run and pouring rain began to fall at Blue Ash Sports Center in the championship game. Isaac Mahle singled to score Edwards, and Carter Biron tripled to score Mahle before the game ended in a rain-shortened 7-2 win and the Flyers fourth tournament championship of the season.
The Flyers outscored their competition 44-10 in the tournament.
The tournament started with the Flyers putting up five runs in the top of the first inning on Saturday.
The Flyers went on to win 13-6. Chase Collins was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, three runs scored and two RBI. Tim Finley was 1-for-1 with a home run, two walks, two runs scored and two RBI.
The Flyers won 17-1 in their second pool play game. They scored eight runs in the first inning before adding four in the second and five in the third. Edwards was 1-for-2 with a home run.
The Flyers won the semifinal game 7-1, thanks to Peyton Johnson’s pitching. Johnson went five innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs. He struck out six. At the plate, he was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, two RBI and a run scored. Finley was also 2-for-3 with a triple. He scored a run and had an RBI.
The win sent the Flyers to the championship.
Bronx DeBert allowed only two runs over four innings in the final. Meanwhile, Edwards was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored.
The win moves the Flyers to 18-3 on the season.
