PF Flyers 10U wins tourney
The PF Flyers 10U team used scorching hot bats to blow through their first three games of the Tournaments for a Cause Wins for Wishes this weekend before hanging on for a 10-7 win in the championship game.
The Flyers scored 63 runs in four games in the tournament.
In their first three games, they outscored the opposition 53-8.
The Flyers started Saturday with a 13-2 win. Wyatt Cobb pitched five innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs while striking out 11. Charlie Noeth went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Liam Hall was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.
In the second game of pool play, Noeth and Owen Hausman combined for a three-inning no-hitter. Finn Huggins was 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and three RBI. Hausman was 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored. And Julian Southard was 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored.
The Saturday wins sent the Flyers to the semifinal where they put up 20 hits in a 23-4 win. Noeth was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and five RBI. Holt Timmer was 3-for-3 with two runs scored the three RBI. Oakley Lakes was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
The Flyers faced a threat in the top of the first inning of the championship game. With two on and one out, Zach Reidel threw out a runner stealing second. Lakes struck out the next better to end the inning.
Huggins drove in a run in the bottom of the first.
The game went back and forth until the fifth inning when the Redlegs OKI scored three to take a 7-6 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Lakes singled with two outs. Hall walked. Reidel singled to tie the score. Huggins followed that up with a two-run double. Hausman capped that rally with an RBI single to put the Flyers up 10-7.
In the top of the sixth and final inning, pitcher Timmer caught a line drive back to him to start the inning. After a runner reached, the Flyers turned a 5-4-3 double play with Huggins fielding the ball and throwing it to Lakes at second who made a nice throw to first to end the game.
The Flyers are now 26-4-1 on the season.
