PF Flyers 11U keeps rolling, wins fourth tournament championship
The PF Flyers 11U team continued to add hardware, winning the K-Sports Kings Midsummer Classic over the weekend.
It is the Flyers’ fourth tournament championship this season.
The Flyers began pool play by hammering out 13 hits in an 11-3 win on Friday night. Tim Finley was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Silas Lincoln was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI.
On Saturday, the Flyers battled to a 3-3 tie. Isaac Mahle scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score. Neither team could push a run across the rest of the way.
That sent the Flyers to the semifinal. The team took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Jack Wilson led the game off with a walk. Ryan Edwards reached on an error. One batter later, Finley singled them both home.
Ohio Hitmen scored a run in the bottom of the second, but the Flyers escaped the threat when right fielder Peyton Johnson caught a line drive and doubled a runner off second to end the inning.
But the Hitmen tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the third.
That’s where the score stayed until Edwards doubled in Wilson in the fifth. He later came around to score on an error, making it 4-2.
Bronx Debert, who had pitched brilliantly over 5 2/3 innings, exited the game with the Flyers leading 4-3 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Carter Cassady came on to induce a ground out with the tying run on second to end the game and send the Flyers to the finals.
It was all Flyers in the championship game. They started the game with a five-run first and never looked back.
Edwards was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Max Roberts was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
Cassady pitched a six-inning complete game, allowing only two hits and no earned runs.
The Flyers beat the Flames 10-1.
Edwards hit .583 in the tournament with three doubles. Wilson hit .500 with a double.
On the mound, Cassady pitched nine innings, on only 89 pitches. He allowed only three hits.
The Flyers are now 23-3-1.
