PF Flyers 11U wins Mother’s Day tournament
The PF Flyers 11U team bounced back after losing in pool play to win the Mother's Day MADDness Championship by Tournaments for a Cause.
The Flyers lost 11-5 to Bo Jackson Elite-Davis in the second game of pool play to go 1-1 before the bracket began. The Flyers committed six errors in that game and were outhit nine to five.
That meant that Bo Jackson was the top seed in bracket play. After a win in the semifinal, the Flyers played a clean game with no errors or walks and pounded out 13 hits in the rematch against Bo Jackson. That earned the 8-3 win and tournament championship.
Peyton Johnson and Max Roberts started the championship game with singles. One out later Chase Collins hit a sacrifice fly to put the Flyers on the board.
In the second, Silas Lincoln and Roberts hit RBI singles to stretch the lead to 3-0.
After Bo Jackson scored one in the bottom of the second, the Flyers scored three in the top of the third. Isaac Mahle started the inning with a single. After Mahle stole second, Ryan Edwards dropped a bunt single in. That moved Mahle to third. Jack Wilson scored Mahle on a squeeze bunt. Carter Cassady doubled to score Edwards. Johnson added an RBI double to make the score 6-1.
The Flyers held on from there. Lincoln pitched one scoreless inning. Cassady went five innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs, while striking out one.
Cassady was 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI. Johnson was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Roberts was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
The Flyers won the semifinal 11-3, led by Roberts, who went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Tim Finley was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Mahle was 2-for-2 with a double.
Pitcher Bronx Debert earned the win, going five innings and allowing six hits and two earned runs, striking out four.
On the weekend, Finley hit .545 with a double and a triple. Roberts hit .538 with a triple and a team-high six RBI. Johnson hit .500 with a double, seven stolen bases and seven runs scored.
The Flyers are now 12-2 with two tournament championships. They return to action Memorial Day weekend.
