PF Flyers 13U wins first fall tournament

The PF Flyers 13U won the Fall Ball Shootout one-day tournament Sunday at the Flash Baseball Complex.

The Flyers went 3-0 on the day, led by the pitching staff, which struck out 23 hitters in 11 innings.

Offensively, Peyton Johnson led the way with a whopping 12 RBI in the three games. Johnson had five hits.

The Flyers started with an 11-0 win. Johnson was 2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBI. Easton Thiel, William Gaietto and Caleb Blankenship combined for the two-hit shutout. Thiel and Gaietto each struck out four.

The second game of pool play required late-inning heroics.

The Flyers trailed 8-6 heading into the bottom of the last inning. Chance Young led the inning off with a single. Landon Caseltine walked. An error by the defense plated a run to cut the lead to 8-7. Two outs later, Kypton Traft singled on a hard ground ball to right field to tie the score at 8.

Carter Biron followed that up with a walkoff line drive single to right for the 9-8 win.

That sent the Flyers to the championship game, where the team dominated in a 12-0 win.

Traft and Young combined for a three-inning no-hitter. Traft struck out all six hitters he faced. Young allowed a walk in his one inning, but also struck out three. That meant that all nine outs in the game came via strikeout.

Traft also added a home run in the game.
