12U Flyers rally again to win second championship

A week after coming from behind in the championship game, the 12U PF Flyers again rallied from a late deficit.

A four-run fifth inning propelled the Flyers to win the Cincinnati Shootout put on by Tournaments for a Cause.

The Flyers trailed 6-3 with two outs in the bottom of the fifth when Colton Rash walked in a seven-pitch at-bat. Ryan Edwards singled, scoring Rash. Tim Finley singled scoring Edwards to cut the score to 6-5. After Finley stole second, Andrew Hicks singled him in to tie the score at 6.

Steely Edwards entered the game to run for Hicks and moved to second when Silas Lincoln was hit by a pitch.

Steely Edwards broke for third on a passed ball. The catcher then fired the ball to third and the ball got away from the third baseman, allowing Steely Edwards to score and give the Flyers the 7-6 lead.

Captains Baseball threatened in the top of the sixth inning, putting two runners on with only one out. But Finley came in to induce two ground outs to end the game. The Flyers remain a perfect 9-0 on the season.

The Flyers started the tournament with a 20-9 win. Rash went 4-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and three RBI. Finley went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. Chase Collins went 2-for-3 with four runs scored and an RBI.

The Flyers won 8-5 in their second pool play game. Isaac Mahle was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Flyers cruised in their first two bracket play games, winning 16-1 and 10-1.

In the 16-1 win to start Sunday, Finley went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Rash went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBI. Hicks, Collins and Carter Biron all added two hits. Carter Cassady pitched the three-inning complete game, allowing two hits and one run.

Bronx DeBert dominated in the 10-1 win. He went five innings, allowing two hits and one run, striking out seven.

That sent the Flyers to the championship game.

After the Flyers fell behind early, Peyton Johnson entered the game in relief and threw 3 2/3 innings, allowing only one earned run. Johnson’s pitching allowed the Flyers to get back into the game and ultimately win the championship.
