9U Flyers start season with tourney win

The PF Flyers 9U team used a potent offensive attack to win its first tournament.

The Flyers scored double digit runs in all four games of the season-opening tournament, averaging 15 runs per game.

The Flyers begin the tournament with a 16-5 win. Steely Edwards was 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and four RBI. Hunter Crispin was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI.

The Flyers won 15-4 in their second game. Roman Smith was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and four RBI.

Between the two games, the Flyers had 21 hits and walked 15 times.

In the semifinal on Sunday against Midland, the Flyers jumped out to an 11-0 lead and held on to win 16-12.

Edwards was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI. Thomas O’Donnell was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Jax York was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI. Kyler was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI.

In the championship game, the Flyers trailed for the first time in the tournament. They fell behind 1-0. But the Flyers answered with three runs in the bottom of the second. Crispin, Bryce Kimberly and Smith led off with three straight singles. Smith’s singled scored two. After Ayzik Lockhart walked, Kyler hit an RBI single to make it 3-1.

Midland responded with four runs in the top of the third to retake the lead. But the Flyers scored four in their half of the inning. York led off the inning with a single and scored on Crosby Harris’ single. After Harris was caught stealing, Kimberly tripled and Smith drove him in with a single to tie the score at 5-5. Smith scored on an error and the Flyers added an additional run to make it 7-5.

They never looked back.

Cripsin slammed the door on the mound throwing the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing one hit and striking out five to preserve the 13-5 win.

The Flyers are now 4-0 on the season.
